All Australian mobile numbers begin with 04, currently allocated across Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, TPG and a long tail of MVNOs (Aldi Mobile, Boost, Felix, Belong, Coles Mobile, and many more). Mobile numbers are by far the most common origin for scam SMS and "Hi mum / Hi dad" social-engineering attempts. Scammers also routinely spoof 04 numbers to create the impression of a local mobile call. If a 04 number you don't recognise calls you, it's usually a marketer, a misdial, or a scam.
